Q: “How can I fade different images together?”

Often hollywood movie posters contain collages of images together … Despite what people may think this effect is easy to achieve (when you know how) … In this answer you’re going to blend images together just like in the Hollywood movie posters with ease.

Step 1 Open images

1 In this example we are going to work with 3 images. The image above will be our base image, that the other images will fade into …

Step 2 Move in the first image

1. Select the “Move” tool from the toolbar (or press “V” to go pronto)

Drag in the image …

1 Click and drag another image into our active image area.
2 Where we are dragging to …

Step 3 Create The Fade

1 At the bottom of the layers palette click on the “Add Layer Mask” button.

Select the gradient tool …

1 Select the “Gradient” tool from toolbar.

Draw the gradient …

1 Start gradient at the edge of the image we dragged into our work area (from Step 2) and end half way into our image.

We should now have something like this …

Step 4 Create The Second Fade

1. Select the “Move” tool from the toolbar (or press “V” to go pronto)

Drag and drop image into active image area …

1 The image we are going to drag into our document.
2 Where we are going to move our image.

Create layer mask

1 At the bottom of the layers palette click on the “Add Layer Mask” button.

Choose gradient tool

1 Select the “Gradient” tool from toolbar.

Draw gradient

1 Start the gradient at the right-most edge of the image we dragged into our work area and end half way into our image.

Step 5 Observe

We now have two images fading into one base image – we have faded different images together.
